But really. What am I supposed to type when the entire Eastern (I never know when to capitalize Eastern/Western/English/French/those sorts of things) seaboard is getting drowned by Frankenstorm? It sort of feels like an out of body experience since I can only watch my Instagram and FB feed for updates. Oh, and the news I guess. My closest family are in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. They're not getting hit directly, but they are feeling some pretty major effects. Hunker down family. I'm praying for you! Also I hope you have a fireplace and some coolers, for backup, with some tasty food and warm beverages. I do have several friends in NYC itself and good golly I hope they're ok. Guys, don't worry. The weather in Utah is glorious right now. I know you were deeply concerned as the floodwaters covered your streets and the power went down. All is well here, rest assured!

Here's where I segue awkwardly into the next thing I want to talk about-my house. If it's possible, I love my little house even more than the day we moved in. It's such a simple little house, but so special to me. Modest, especially by Utah standards where everything is Tuscan revival (it's a thing) and the bigger the better and 5k square feet? Why not! Paul came home tonight and talked about how busy he'd been at work all day and then at school all evening, and how he felt nothing but peace as soon as his key sunk into the lock.

Peace.

It's been a long time since my family had any semblance of that. We've done too many stints in rentals, with family, without cash, and simply without in general, that I'm not sure I can convey to you the value of such a thing in my life. We're lucky. We've worked hard for it, but we're lucky and so insanely blessed. Maybe we'll grow out of this house someday, maybe we'll move this family into something bigger, something farther away. No matter where we eventually end up or if we stay forever, I have a feeling a part of my heart will always live right here. We're connected now, this house and I, this house and us. And it feels exactly like how home should.

in other news...

Someone googled "fat baby sitting in a kitchen" and landed on this blog

My work is done.

Stay safe out there, call me if you want some homemade granola and a cup of chai. I'm good for it.
