The South 40 Follow Up

picking "punkins" from our very own patch

I'm sort of ashamed to admit that I really let my garden go to hell the last few months.  The bigger I got, the more I neglected it.  I managed to pick beans like 5 different times and then they just kept coming back, and then I couldn't bend over anymore.  Then the tomatoes finally came on, 1/3 of my corn actually produced, and the zucchini got the memo at last.  And then I had a baby.

Game over.

Today the entire thing is overrun with weeds and pretty much needs to be set on fire.

I give myself 2 out of 5 stars in the gardening department.

At least we got some pumpkins out of the patch.  Nubby is a real fan of the punkins.

Um.. the fact that you even attempted a 5 acre garden and the fact that they produced anything I think gives you 5 gold stars automatically! He is so cute with his punkins!

You were too busy planting that baby seed!

Those are the perfect size pumpkins. No major pumpkin guts to scoop out. Just some markers and you're good to go!

I'd pretty much say if you tried, you're a winner. Especially when you were preggers!? Yeah, you win.

Those are kid sized punkins. Anything bigger you would have to haul in the house. This way the toddler can do the slave labor.
