Oh hey there,
I'm not dead. Though if you ask me at 4 am most mornings I pretty much wish I were.
Let me be the first to tell you that the whole "fat babies sleep better" thing is a holy lie, a vicious untruth. When that kid came out all chubby cheeked and featuring roll upon delicious roll, I seriously thought we were golden. YES! I thought, we'll have an amazing sleeper/eater and my life will be glooorious! Wrong. Yes, he likes to eat and yes he likes to sleep, just not in any sort of a pattern and certainly there is no sleeping going on between the hours of 3 and 6 am. At that point in the night I've usually given up on getting him to sleep in his own bed and have retreated to the recliner which seems to be the only place I can get him to stay asleep for a few consecutive hours. My back is none to happy about this, nor are my breasticles which STILL haven't gotten the memo about what their whole role is in this situation.
We look a lot like this:
but usually I'm not smiling.
Sleep, you fickle mistress. I'd pay just about anything to get in bed with you on a regular basis again.
In other news, I'm having my thyroid tested. Let's pray the results spell out the answer as to why I'm a nut job.

10 notes:
Well, I guess it makes sense that those fatties like to eat.
Ughh... I can totally completely sympathize with you! Jocelyn just started sleeping through the night about 4 weeks ago, and then we took the bink away...
not pretty I tell you.
I have been wanting to come see you and yours, and life has just been a beast lately. Promise I'll be in contact sometime soon!
you're still gorgeous, gorgeous. and i can attest to that big babies not sleeping thing (my smallest was 8 lb. 15 oz.). love you. miss your face. let's get together sometime.
Hey Kalli,
Your new little one if so beautiful. Life does get better. The first couple months are so hard. I empathize with you about the nursing thing. I'm not exactly sure what is going on, but if they are testing your thyroid I can guess that you are having troubles with not having enough milk. It took a while to get my thyroid adjusted with both of my babies and by the time it got regulated the baby was already on the bottle and preferred that over me. I hope you can get it figured out soon so you can have a great experience with nursing. Good luck!
Yeah, my son was already 18 pounds at 8 weeks, and he didn't sleep more than ten minutes at a time until he was almost two. It about killed me. I lost count of how many times I took him to the dr asking for something to knock him out so I could get some rest. My hair fell out in clumps and I cried a lot.
I hope you get some answers to your problems. Feeling crazy on top of a new baby is no fun. I had severe PPD for the first year after my daughter was born. It was a dark, dark time. Hang in there. :)
I have thyroid issues which is why *I* am a nutjob (and my daddy too). The lady two houses down just got hers out and is a whole new person...wonder if most people do that??
Sorry about your bresticles :(
4 am can basically suck it.
He is SO stinkin cute, Kalli!!! As for 4am... we're TOTALLY awake with you, too. Yay. Not really, actually. Will be laughing about this line from your post for awhile: "Sleep, you fickle mistress. I'd pay just about anything to get in bed with you on a regular basis again."
I love you, Kalli!
Someone once told me "The nights last forever, but the years fly by". I have repeated that mantra to myself many times during a 3 o'clock feeding. Try it, it works. Hang in there!
Kalle ~ couldn't have said it better. All your new mommy posts make me laugh and cry...because alas, with my own 1 month old: I feel ya!!
