Four years, man. My braces were off by my junior year, but replaced by a retainer WITH TEETH ON IT.
So I feel you.
Oh the pain! I had braces for six years, spanning ages 8-14. Expanders, rubber bands, surgical tooth removal, the whole bit. My top retainer was pink with sparkles.
